Warsaw, February 28, 2006
More than 200 people attended the official opening of a new production hall as well as start-up of a new Lithoman III S printing press at Eurodruk Poznan. It is the third MAN Roland heatset web press installed by the company and it is the first one of this type in Poland. Two months earlier, the first in the world large-format Agfa :Avalon VLF 80S CtP system had started running in Eurodruk Poznan. The ceremony was held at the company’s seat in Tarnowo Podgorne near Poznan on January 31, 2006. Among many guests present, there were e.g. Dr. Dr. Axel Diekmann, owner of Verlagsgruppe Passau (mother company of Eurodruckservice AG which holds 100% of shares in Eurodruk Poznan), Christian Senff, president of Eurodruckservice AG, representatives of local authorities, customers, trade partners and the company’s employees. Iwona Smigiel, Vice President of Eurodruk Poznan, welcomed everyone and thanked the numerous customers for their long-term co-operation. Ms. Smigiel also thanked the owners of the company for their support in new investment projects completed in 2005. She emphasised that the new production hall’s construction had been completed already within 6 months of the initial investment decisions.
New equipment investments
In 2005, two crucial equipment investments were made by Eurodruk Poznan. In September, a new large-format :Avalon 80 S CtP system from Agfa was installed. It was the first system in the world representing a new Agfa CtP line, showed at Print’05 fair in Chicago. :Avalon 80S is linked on-line with a processor and is driven by Agfa :ApogeeX 2.5 workflow system. It is also the second large-format CtP system from Agfa purchased by Eurodruk Poznan.
Two months later a new web offset printing press had its start-up. It was the third press of a Lithoman III family, installed in Eurodruk Poznan. This time the company chose Lithoman III S model, offering 900 mm cut-off, maximum speed of 60.000 revolutions per hour and maximum web width 1905 mm. The press has been equipped with many innovative solutions in terms of control, monitoring and improvement of print quality. QI Control system enables ink register and cutting register control. A quality of magazines and catalogues is improved by integration of EcoCool oven drying and paper web dampening systems. Lithoman III S is also equipped with MAN Roland’s in-line system of ink density measurement.
The press offers 2:5:5 folder and normally allows for 48-page printing, but at Eurodruk Poznan it has been used for 56-page printing in A4-like size, too. Jaroslaw Kotfis, responsible for web offset presses at MAN Roland Polska says:
A 56-page printing on our new Lithoman press was an original idea of Eurodruk Poznan specialists. We have only helped them in reaching this goal. I wish to emphasise that it is a very unique solution, not only in Poland.
Eurodruk Poznan – a leading heatset printing house in PolandEurodruk Poznan is one of the two Polish printing sites belonging to Eurodruckservice AG. Since its establishment in 1999, the company has carried out huge investment projects. New printing presses have been installed every two years. Last year, another investment step was taken, including a new production hall and new equipment.
Currently the company’s machinery park consists of two large-format CtP systems from Agfa (:Xcalibur VLF 50 and :Avalon 80 S), three heatset web presses from MAN Roland (two Lithoman III presses, one Lithoman III S model) and numerous postpress machines from such suppliers as Gämmerler, Müller Martini, Wohlenberg and Heidelberg.
Most of Eurodruk Poznan’s production consists of magazines, catalogues, leaflets and other high-volume commercial printing products. Among the company’s customers there are mainly publishing houses (Polskapresse, Tele Magazyn, Burda Polska, Bauer, G+J, ABW Media, Egmont, Motorpress, Bertelsmann Media, Feniks), large supermarkets (Tesco, Selgros, Metro, Intermarche, Minimal, Carrefour) and advertising agencies. Approx. 200 people are currently employed at Eurodruk Poznan.
After the latest investments Eurodruk Poznan joined the group of the leading Polish heatset printing houses. Iwona Smigiel is convinced that new investments, as well as higher production capacity, will improve the service for the company’s current customers and help attract new ones:
We are very glad that the company’s owners have responded very quickly to our inquiries for new investments. The decision was made in December 2004 and only a year later we are standing in a new production hall, equipped with a new heatset press and a new CtP system. I’m sure that it will enable us to expand our operations both in Poland and abroad.
