Record-breaking Contract from Agfa Graphics in Poland: Four B1 CtP Systems for Cezex Company

Warsaw, November 19, 2007
On October 9 Cezex company, one of the biggest Polish paper and carton distributors, signed the agreement with Agfa Graphics Sp. z o.o. On its basis, Agfa will deliver to Cezex four :Avalon XXT full-size CtP systems by the end of this year. As a result, a completely new service – CtP platemaking – will appear in the portfolio of Cezex company. The agreement was the biggest contract on CtP systems delivery in Poland signed in 2007.

The management of Cezex had decided to expand the company’s services offer last year. A completely new department, focused on CtP services, will enable many printers, especially small and medium-sized ones, which cannot afford purchasing their own CtP system, benefit from digital technology of plates production. Cezariusz Szlachcic, President of Cezex, says: After a deep analysis of the CtP services customers and vendors market in Poland we have concluded that installing two more CtP systems, either in B2 or B1 size, will be a drop in a sea of the Polish printing industry needs. On the other hand, starting many new systems wouldn’t be justified economically. That’s why we decided to create a model of availability of a modern printing technology, that would benefit from Cezex’s current advantages and potential of our customers’ skills. The basis of this business model is an active incorporating of many companies interested in the highest possible printing quality in the whole production process – from an advertisement agency to a printing house – without eliminating the currently existing and newly established CtP and CtF studios. The system, which will be started soon, will enable our customers creating and verifying the imposition by themselves, using the Internet browser. Of course, we will offer the traditional CtP services as well.

Mariusz Dec, CtP Project Manager at Cezex, computer specialist and one of the CtF pioneers in Poland, adds: According to our information, the Polish market suffers from a lack of production capacity of existing CtP systems. A traditional model of a single CtP studio or even the network of such studios means the fixed costs and many organizational and personal problems, mainly because of a lack of highly skilled operators. Our concept, based on a “leasing” or “renting” a capacity of our machinery park, eliminates the above problems. To realize our idea, we will use the Internet-based tools which will allow our customers – without leaving the company office – for many self-made functions: verifying the files submitted for imaging and printing, making the imposition and imaging the plates on our equipment. A big advantage of Cezex’s studio will be four CtP systems working in one place. They will be a full back-up for each other and offer a huge efficiency, reaching up to 160 B1 plates or 240 B2 plates per hour.
The efficiency of the studio will be supplied by four full-size Agfa :Avalon XXT platesetters working in-line with :Elantrix HX processors. Each platesetter, based on an advanced HD GLV technology, offers a speed of 40 B1 plates per hour and enables production of plates using :Agfa Sublima cross-modulated screen technology (up to 340 lpi).
Says Mariusz Dec: Our studio will offer many screen types as well as several rendering systems (Agfa/Adobe, Harlequin, Eagle), enabling a native handling of PDF files as well as traditional handling of PostScript documents. On a special wish, we will be able to handle 1-bit TIFF files created in other systems what means a further flexibility of our studio. Among other functions, offered via an Internet-based portal, there will be: soft proofing, conversion of spot colors and RGB colors into CMYK, changing a base format and the most important parameters of the signature during imposition etc. In future we will expand the package of these functions. The advanced preflighting system will prevent our customers against incorrect platemaking.
The services offered by Cezex will be additionally secured by a generating set and the company’s independent water-feeding system, preventing the customers against a possible lack of energy or water from the city networks.

Cezex will co-operate mainly with the customers from Warsaw and its surroundings, however the further plans of the company consider expanding CtP services within the whole country. Iwona Trochimczuk, Marketing and Purchasing Director at Cezex, says: As we wish to shorten a plates delivery time to the customer, we plan to start the next CtP production centres in other regions of Poland as well. Using our existing logistics basis, we will be able to offer many small- and medium-sized printers, who are not interested in purchasing their own CtP, high quality service and opportunity of platemaking using digital technology.
Stefan Piotrowski, Sales Director at Agfa Graphics Sp. z o.o., adds: We are extremely proud to be involved in this year’s biggest CtP investment in Poland. One-off delivery of four B1 CtP systems for the same company is an unusual event, not only in a scale of Poland. We deeply hope that our solutions and a close co-operation with Agfa Graphics will help Cezex in starting the company’s ambitious project, enabling many Polish printers benefit from advantages of digital platemaking technology.
